Each app decides how many credits a request burns, so "1,000 credits" means something different in each product. Dollars are comparable. When Hidini users run out, another 1,000 costs $10 inside the app. With Interview Coder, more credits arrive with the next $299 charge.

With Hidini, you can skip credits entirely

This is the difference we would want to know about if we were the ones shopping. Hidini lets you plug in your own API key for Claude, GPT, or Gemini. The app then talks to the provider directly and never touches your credits. A full interview session at raw API rates usually costs cents. If you already pay for one of these APIs, your marginal cost of using Hidini is close to nothing.

Prefer not to send anything to the cloud at all? Hidini also works with local models through LM Studio, Ollama, or Jan. That runs entirely on your Mac, costs nothing per request, and keeps working when the hotel wifi does not. Interview Coder offers neither. No key support, no local models. The subscription is the only door to its AI.

Smaller things Hidini has that Interview Coder does not

Invisible sticky notes are the one people tell us they did not expect to love. You write your prep before the call, your STAR stories, your complexity cheat sheet, whatever you would normally scribble on paper, and it floats over every app while staying out of the shared screen. Notes have formatting, colors, and a one-shortcut toggle.

Transcription is a choice, not a default. Apple Speech runs free and on-device; OpenAI Realtime, Groq Whisper, and Deepgram Nova-3 are there when you want more accuracy or speed. Interview Coder transcribes audio too, but does not say what is under the hood or give you options.

Hidini is also a genuinely small program, written entirely in Swift with zero third-party packages. No Electron, no embedded browser. The download is just 4.2 MB and idle CPU sits at 0%. Interview Coder publishes no size, no CPU figures, nothing about what it is built on. During an interview your machine is already juggling a video call, screen sharing, and an IDE. We think the overhead of your helper app matters right then, and we are comfortable being measured on it.

Where Interview Coder wins

It runs on Windows. Hidini does not. We are macOS only (macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple Silicon and Intel), and if your interview machine runs Windows, that settles it in Interview Coder's favour.

It also markets named modes for different interview types: system design, behavioral, consulting, data analysis, product management. Hidini handles all of these with the same transcription, hints, and screen analysis, but we have not packaged them into presets.

And it has been around longer, with a much bigger marketing footprint. Their homepage claims 150,000+ candidates hired and zero documented detections. We cannot verify those numbers, and neither can you. What you can verify is how each app behaves on your own machine, which both free tiers let you do.

On invisibility claims, ours included

Both apps hide from screen capture, and both do it well. Hidini stays out of Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Discord, OBS, and other capture tools. Interview Coder lists more than twenty undetectability features covering similar ground.

Here is the caveat every tool in this category should print in bold, and mostly does not: hidden from screen capture is not hidden from the room. Your physical display shows everything. A second camera pointed at your screen, or a person behind you, sees exactly what you see. That is true for Hidini, for Interview Coder, and for every product like them. We keep a plainly worded limitations list on our site for exactly this reason.

So is Hidini a good Interview Coder alternative?

On a Mac, yes. Hidini does the same core job, costs $79.99 once instead of $299 every month, and lets you bring your own API key or run a local model so usage costs nothing on top. The honest limits on that recommendation: Hidini is macOS only, so on Windows it is not an alternative at all, and we do not package the named interview modes their marketing leads with. Other alternatives exist in this category and some are cheaper than both. We would rather you tested two or three than took anyone's word, including ours.
